After signing with Republic Pictures, Slye was renamed Roy Rogers and starred in his first leading role in the film Under Western Stars. This marked his official debut as the King of the Cowboys and launched his legendary career as a singing cowboy star.

Rogers successfully transitioned his popularity to the new medium of television with The Roy Rogers Show. The hit series, featuring his wife Dale Evans and horse Trigger, solidified his enduring appeal for a new generation of fans.
