Erika Gregor

Erika Gregor co-founded the Freunde der Deutschen Kinemathek (Friends of German Kinemathek) in West Berlin. This foundational organization became crucial for establishing an independent film culture, providing a platform for critical discourse and the exhibition of films outside commercial distribution channels.

This was a landmark year as Erika Gregor, with Ulrich Gregor, co-founded both the Internationales Forum des Jungen Films (International Forum of New Cinema) at the Berlinale and opened the Arsenal cinema. The Forum provided a vital platform for independent and experimental films at a major festival, while the Arsenal cinema became a dedicated venue for showcasing non-commercial, international avant-garde cinema year-round, profoundly shaping German film culture.
